Everything runs locally on the server using dictionaries, phrase libraries and sentence templates. The library currently holds 472 active built-in rules, and administrators can add more.

What is protected

  • URLs, e-mail addresses and DOIs
  • Citations and reference markers such as (Smith, 2020) and [3]
  • Direct quotations and code snippets
  • Numbers, dates and measurements
  • Likely proper nouns, and specialist terms in Academic mode
  • Phrases you mark as "Do not change"

Writing checker

  • Repeated words, doubled spaces and punctuation slips
  • Common misspellings and commonly confused words
  • Repeated sentence openings and very long sentences
  • Readability indicators
  • Each suggestion is labelled definite, likely or style; uncertain patterns are never called errors

Similarity check

  • Finds word-for-word overlap with your own saved documents and reference texts you add
  • Quoted passages are shown separately and not counted
  • Optional internet spot check (when enabled by the operator): a few short excerpts are looked up with a search service, and only pages whose wording really matches are reported
  • A spot check cannot prove that text is original

Documents

  • Autosave with protection against overwriting newer versions
  • Version history with restore and comparison
  • Search, sort, duplicate, rename and delete
  • Import TXT and DOCX; export TXT, DOCX and PDF (PDF is plain text, Latin characters)

Limits we state openly

  • English only
  • Rule-based: it will not restructure whole arguments or invent content
  • It never invents citations, statistics, quotes or experiences
  • No guarantee about any AI-detection tool
